Field observations from 17th December 2022 to 27th December 2022

This winter is warmer than the previous one in Tartu. Crows are taking advantage from brief periods of thaw to find food easily in exposed areas or areas covered with a small amount of snow.

When the snow is too thick, they visit trash cans to find food discarded by humans.

C. frugilegus are resting in the same nests they built last spring to raise their younglings…

…whereas C. cornix are exploring the frozen river, walking on the edges of the ice, to drink water and hunt small preys.
