Field observations from 3rd July 2023 to 17th July 2023

Slowly, as the nesting season is ending for the crows, they can be seen back in their usual trees, where they spend most of the year. But for the moment, not many of them manage to stay peacefully there, as they have to face the hostility of gulls.

The reason is quite clear: on the roofs of the buildings surrounding the trees, the nesting season of the gulls is still ongoing, and chicks can be seen, calling their parents and requesting food, on the edge of the roof.

Some of these chicks are still quite young, explaining the aggressive behaviour of their very defensive parents towards a species that would not fight gulls directly, but would see no problem to attack a defenceless chick in their absence.
