Field observations from 19th November 2022 to 30th November 2022

Cold is coming again and crows are looking more than ever for food, in the provision of the winter. Sometimes, it is done in a way that can be messy and a source of trouble for human inhabitants.

Big flocks are gathering in the early morning or late evening. The lights of the city allow them to gather way before sunset and after dusk.

Since they are not migrating, crows of Tartu are reading to endure the Nordic winter.

Maybe they will even have to coexist with unfamiliar species: this magpie is the first one caught in observations in the area in one entire year.

Definitely, winter is coming…
